UNECE and the SDGs

Introduction

SDG_cubes

UNECE supports countries in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) thanks to its role as a platform for governments to cooperate and engage with all stakeholders on norms, standards and conventions, its unique convening power across the region, its multisectoral approach to tackle the interconnected challenges of sustainable development in an integrated manner and its transboundary focus, which helps devise solutions to shared challenges.

In focus

In times of continued multiple crises, the 2024 UNECE Regional Forum on Sustainable Development carved out a space for discussion on the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions, and for networking and partnerships among participants.

The 2024 RFSD brought together over 800 participants from governments, academia, businesses, youth and civil society to scale up transformative action for the SDGs in the region in view of multiple crises. The forum took place on 13 – 14 March, with pre-meetings from youth and civil society and 40 side events kicking off in the days before. The Forum’s High-level Policy Segment, Plenary Sessions and Peer Learning Round Tables placed particular focus on SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16 and 17. The Co-Chairs’ summary of the Forum provides the region’s official input for the 2024 High-level Political Forum. The outcomes also feed into the Summit of the Future in September 2024, which will accelerate efforts to meet our existing international commitments, including the 2030 Agenda, and take concrete steps to respond to emerging challenges and opportunities.
