The 19th meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources management and the 19th meeting of the Working Group on Monitoring and Assessment under the Water Convention will be held in Geneva. It will start on Monday, 6 May 2024 at 10.00 a.m., and end on Wednesday, 8 May 2024 at 1 p.m. The meetings of the two Working Groups are held jointly to exploit synergies in the work of the two bodies.
The main objectives of the joint meeting of the Working Groups will be to:
- Review implementation of the Water Convention programme of work for 2022–2024 and discuss progress in the Convention’s global opening;
- Discuss the draft programme of work for 2025–2027, to be submitted to the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention for adoption at its 10th session on 23-25 October 2024;
- Begin preparations for the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties.

Participation
The meeting is open to experts representing governmental authorities, joint bodies, non-governmental as well as international organizations and other interested stakeholders, from the academia or the private sector. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is committed to gender equality. To this end, we encourage Member States to ensure gender balanced participation in the meeting. Participation by all Parties is particularly important, as this is the last preparatory meeting prior to the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention.
Format of the meeting
Participants are expected to attend the meeting in person in Geneva. The meeting will also be webcasted on UN WebTV. The working languages for the meeting will be Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

Visa application
Switzerland is part of the Schengen area. Participants requiring a visa are therefore invited to register as soon as possible and start the visa application procedure at least 5 weeks in advance. If you need a personal invitation letter for visa purpose, please indicate it clearly in the registration.
Financial support
Eligible participants from countries with economies in transition and developing countries may apply for financial support to facilitate their participation in the meeting using the financial support request form. Requests for financial support should be submitted to the Secretariat ([email protected]) as soon as possible, but no later than 20 March 2024. No application will be accepted after this deadline.Only limited funding is available; therefore, only a maximum of one participant per country/organization might be eligible for support. Experts will be notified by 1 April whether their application has been accepted or not.
